Three-on-Three Basketball Rules

Three-on-three basketball, also known as 3x3 or half-court basketball, is a variation of the traditional five-on-five game. It is played with three players on each team and the court is divided into two halves. Here are the key rules and regulations for this exciting and fast-paced version of the game:

1. **Number of Players**: Each team consists of three players, including a point guard, a wing, and a center. Substitutions are allowed, but only one player can enter or exit the game at a time.

2. **Court Size**: The court is divided into two halves, with each half measuring 15 feet wide and 25 feet long. The free-throw lane is extended to 15 feet, and the three-point line is moved to 18 feet.

3. **Scoring**: Points are scored the same way as in traditional basketball, with a point awarded for each successful shot from the field or free throw. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

4. **Possession**: The game starts with a jump ball at the center of the court. The team that wins the tip-off gains possession of the ball. After that, possession changes when a team scores, misses a shot, or commits a violation.

5. **Fouls and Violations**: Fouls and violations are similar to those in traditional basketball, with some modifications. For example, a player cannot travel with the ball, and a double dribble results in a turnover.

6. **Shot Clock**: A shot clock is not used in 3x3 basketball, allowing for more opportunities to set up plays and execute strategies.

7. **Timeouts**: Each team is allowed two timeouts per game, with each timeout lasting 30 seconds.

8. **Game Duration**: The game is divided into four periods of 10 minutes each, with a 1-minute break between periods and a 2-minute break at halftime.

9. **Overtime**: If the game is tied at the end of regulation time, a 5-minute overtime period is played. The first team to score a point wins the overtime period and the game.

These rules create a fast-paced, exciting game that is both accessible and fun for players of all skill levels. Whether you're a seasoned basketball player or just starting out, 3x3 basketball is a great way to enjoy the sport with friends and family.
